The Consonantia Joint School Strings Festival is an annual collaborative music event in Hong Kong that brings together student string ensembles from various local schools. Organized by King Ling College, the festival serves as a non-competitive platform where young violinists, cellists, and other student musicians perform together, exchange musical ideas, and gain valuable stage experience at professional cultural venues.
As a student from the host school, watching this massive collaboration come to life on a professional stage was incredibly fulfilling. It was a massive eye-opener to perform in a completely non-competitive space where the sole focus was pure musical expression rather than chasing marks. Sharing the stage and exchanging ideas with talented student musicians from all over Hong Kong really pushed my own boundaries and showed me a whole new side to what a music community can be.
Looking back at my secondary school life, my music path has been an incredible ride. I started out in Form One not knowing how to play a single instrument. I was a complete rookie barely managing to play a single note, yet I found myself joining the massive 150-member school orchestra and staying dedicated to it for my entire school life. Through years of hard work, I completely transformed my musicality and eventually became a jazz band leader, taking up the responsibility of leading our band to competitions every single year. Beyond the music itself, I absolutely loved the experience of performing with others and learned massive lessons in leadership. Guiding a band taught me how to communicate and interact with all kinds of specialized people, figuring out how to bring everyone's unique strengths together to work harmoniously. It turns out that starting from the very bottom was a great way to ensure my journey ended on a high note.
The STEM+E Competition 2026, organized by the STEM+E Consortium, engages Hong Kong secondary students in applying STEM knowledge and entrepreneurial skills to solve real-world ESG challenges. Spanning several months, the competition features workshops, a day camp at Hong Kong Science Park, mentoring sessions, and a grand finale at Cyberport to foster innovation.
It was such an incredible ride, especially because it brought together top students from elite schools all across Hong Kong. Getting thrown into a team with complete strangers who were all so incredibly sharp and driven really pushed me, and I absolutely loved the chemistry we built while tackling those ESG challenges. Beyond the workshops and visiting places like Science Park and Cyberport, getting to brainstorm alongside the brightest minds in the city taught me so much. I learned a ton about entrepreneurship, but the best part is definitely coming away with an amazing new network of friends from so many different schools.
Back in March 2026, I had the amazing opportunity to visit a local high school in Seoul during our Form Five Grand Tour to Korea.
Walking into the school felt exactly like stepping onto a K-drama set with the stylish uniforms and familiar hallways. But the intense academic environment quickly reminded me of home, because the crushing pressure of the Suneung felt just like our DSE hurdle in Hong Kong. It was also fascinating to see their strict senior junior hierarchy in action. Despite all that heavy stress, the school lunches were amazing and tasted so distinctively Korean, and I am just really happy that I got to make some great friends during this exchange.
Being a part of King Ling College STEAM Education has been an incredibly rewarding experience. During our showcase events, we got to teach kids from many different primary schools about the tech we built, from games we coded and custom robots to the AI models we trained. It made me so glad to see the younger generation genuinely enjoying the exact same things I am passionate about now. Looking ahead, I hope we all continue to improve from time to time and never stop exploring the endless possibilities of the technology world.
The King Ling College School Gala is a prestigious annual celebration uniting hundreds of students in a massive, spectacular collaboration of artistic excellence. This grand event brings the entire student body together for an extraordinary evening, showcasing breathtaking musical, theatrical, and visual masterpieces that honor the school's rich heritage.
Being right in the center of this productionβjuggling roles in the choir, helping out as an event helper, and running around as part of the technical staffβwas an absolute rush, but my main focus and proudest moment was performing center stage with the orchestra. Seeing the entire student body pour their heart and soul into a single evening made me feel incredibly proud. Sharing that massive creative energy on stage with hundreds of my schoolmates is a core memory I will carry with me long after graduation.
I will be able to see them!
Kaboom!
